SCHOOL DAY PROGRAMMING (SDP)
Citizens of Brunswick & New Hanover Counties – We need your help.
The mission of The First Tee of Brunswick County is to impact, inspire and influence the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that build character and citizenship, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices through the game of golf and other enduring character-building activities.
SDP is a joint Brunswick County Schools – The First Tee of Brunswick County Program (TFTBC) program. TFTBC conducts the program. It is for grades 4 & 5 in all (10) Brunswick County public elementary schools.

SDP curriculum is The First Tee (TFT) Nine Core Values, TFT Nine Healthy Habits, & TFT Life Skills Experience. Lesson plan one is TFT Code of Conduct.
Volunteer TFTBC coaches deliver SDP at Cinghiale Creek (home facility of TFTBC) for six elementary schools, Magnolia Greens for three elementary schools, & St James Players Club for one elementary school.
Homeroom classes from the schools are bused to their green-grass facility for a 90 minute “class” five times in the fall, four times in the spring. A class consists of a group “icebreaker” on the core value of the day, followed by several, rotating activity stations, followed by a group “wrap-up” to reinforce the core value and “transition/bridge” it to the classroom, home & life.
Lead coaches lead volunteer coaching teams of 4-8 coaches per session. Two classes equals one session. Two homerooms come at 8:45a, followed by two more homerooms at 10:15a, making for a three-hour coaching commitment, usually one day per week, for the 9 total sessions. There is a three hour training & orientation session requirement for new ass’t coaches. We will give the training/orientation several times this summer. We do background checks on all new volunteers. We need new volunteers for all three SDP locations.
Golf skills are not a requirement to be a volunteer. Passion & desire are, as well as meeting opportunity to impact, inspire and influence our youth.
We are the only chapter of The First Tee delivering SDP in a county-wide framework. We intend to eventually be grades 4, 5 & 6, county-wide.
For the 2011 – 2012 school year, we will be grades 4 & 5 for the Cinghiale Creek six schools; grade 4 for Magnolia Greens three schools, and grade 4 for the St James one school. Reaching 2000 youth!
This program is having profound & measurable impact on its students. Better attendance, better attention, better classroom behavior, greater respect, and less disciplinary incidents.
